Arc Flash Protective Clothing PPE
In June of 2005, OSHA first identified Arc Flash and Arc Blast as a significant health hazard in the workplace. In April 2014, they finalized the rules surrounding this issue, determining workers shall be provided with clothing that would not worsen their condition if exposed to this multi-hazard event.
As a result of this identification and directive to protect workers, experts throughout North America came together to generate a consensus of standards to determine the levels of protection required. These protection levels have been adopted by the NFPA 70E and CSA Z462 and identified as Arc Flash PPE Categories.
Understanding that these Arc Flash PPE Categories do not protect individuals from injuries, instead mitigating the impact of an Arc Flash on an individual, is vital.
The Arc Flash PPE Categories identified below are derived from NFPA 70E and CSA Z462 standards subject to periodic change. Verifying current requirements based on the location and type of work involved is paramount to ensuring compliance with local requirements and regulations.
